NIMKII & FARBOD MAEEN CA/ON
This audiovisual performance emerges from a collaborative encounter between interdisciplinary artist Farbod Maeen and Indigenous dancer and singer Nimkii, grounded in dialogue, shared presence, and mutual respect
A Live Audiovisual, Electroacoustic & Dance Performance
At its core, the work reflects on how ritual, dance, and voice, once inseparable from daily life, have become distant from contemporary experience. Rather than recreating tradition within conventional performance formats, the artists sought to understand the origins of movement and sound, and the environments that shape them.
Nimkii’s dance was filmed on the land, fields connected to cycles of nourishment and continuity, accompanied only by field recordings of the environment. These raw materials were captured during the moonrise of the full Pink Moon, marking a moment of transition between seasons and states of being.
The live performance translates this documentation into an immersive audiovisual composition, where recorded gestures and landscapes merge with real-time sound and visual manipulation. Multiple projections, textures, and light layers interact with the live presence of the performer, dissolving boundaries between body, land, and digital space.
