Overview of show

This show was definitely the highlight of the 2010 season for Persian classical music. Maestro Shajarian is regarded as a living legend and was received with thunderous applause. The audience bestowed upon him no less than seven standing ovations, at times even chanting “Ostad, dooset darim” (Maestro, we love you).

Accompanying Maestro Shajarian was the equally impressive Shahnaz Ensemble. Directed by one of the most innovative contemporary composers of Persian classical music, Maestro Majid Derakhshani, the Ensemble showcased many of the new instruments designed by Maestro Shajarian himself.

The instrumentalists of the Shahnaz Ensemble include Majid Derakhshani (tar), Ramin Safaie (santoor), Mojgan Shajarian (setar), Mohammad Reza Ebrahimi (barbat, kereshmeh), Radman Tavakoli (tar), Sahar Ebrahimi (qanun), Mahdi Amini (saghar), Shahou Andalibi (ney), Hamed Afshari (shahnavaz), Negar Kharkan (sorahi), Saman Samimi (kamancheh and saboo), Mehrdad Nasehi (sorahi), Hamid Ghanbari (tombak), Hossein Rezaie Nia (daf).
